Coffee was chosen as a key crop grown in the Central Highlands, to grow and trade coffee trees to earn extra income. Since then, the expansion of coffee growing area and coffee output has increased rapidly every year as well as the demand of domestic and foreign consumers, making the Vietnamese coffee industry have impressive development steps. This type of agricultural product became 12 items with export turnover of over USD 2 billion, ranking second after rice and reaching 30% of total domestic gross output. As of 2014, Vietnam is still considered the second largest coffee exporter in the world.
